The School Counsellor
is responsible for supporting the social, emotional, and academic development
of students across the school. The role focuses on providing guidance and
counselling services, promoting student wellbeing, addressing behavioural and
emotional challenges, and supporting a safe and inclusive school environment.
The counsellor works closely with school leadership, teachers, students, and
parents to ensure that all students are supported in reaching their full
potential.
• Provide individual and group
counselling sessions to support students’ emotional, social, and behavioural
needs
• Identify and support students experiencing academic, personal, or
psychological challenges
• Develop and implement wellbeing, mental health, and social-emotional learning
programs
• Maintain confidential student records, case notes, and reports in line with
school policies
• Collaborate with teachers to support students with behavioural or emotional
concerns
• Support the implementation of student safeguarding and child protection
policies
• Monitor and follow up on student attendance, engagement, and wellbeing
indicators
• Provide guidance on conflict resolution, peer relationships, and positive
behaviour strategies
• Work with parents to address student concerns and provide guidance on
supporting learners at home
• Refer students to external specialists or services when necessary
• Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention where required
• Support transition programs for students entering or leaving different school
levels
• Deliver workshops or training sessions for staff and students on
wellbeing-related topics
• Contribute to the development of school policies related to student welfare
and safeguarding
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture
• Bachelor’s or
Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, or a related field
• Relevant certification or licensing in counselling or school psychology (as
applicable)
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience working as a counsellor, preferably in a
school setting
• Strong understanding of child and adolescent development
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and wellbeing practices
• Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality and
professionalism
• Strong organisational and documentation skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents
• Commitment to promoting student wellbeing and a positive school environment
